Introducing F&E Med

DESCRIPTION: My new iPhone application is called F&E Med (short for Fast & easy.) It is a device that records your temperature, blood pressure and heart rate. The sensor is sold at Apple stores. It costs $100 and comes with a serial number. Then, you download the application for free and sync the app and sensor using the serial number. The sensor is thin and comes with a sticky adhensive for easy attachment. It can be attached anywhere on the back of the iPhone.

HOW IT WORKS: After the sensor and application are synced and the sensor is attached to the phone, its ready. Simply open the application and press start. Then place your right thumb (it has to be your right, or else it won’t work) on the sensor. It takes about 30 seconds to record. Once it’s done, the phone will beep twice. Turn the phone back over and all of your needed information is on the screen!

This is a picture of the sensor that is attached to the phone. Disregard my lack of drawing skills.

This is a picture of the application you download. Again, disregard my drawing.

Pathetic yet addicting…

I’m still not sure what this blog is about yet, but I have to make a post in reference to what it’s about. Hmmm… As I said earlier I love media and celebrities and current events so I’ll combine all the above!

Bachelor, anyone?

I embarrassingly have to admit that I have religiously watched this season of the Bachelor with Jake, the pilot from Dallas. I get addicted to the corny reality shows and plus, he’s HOT. The show has been on for about a month now, and last night was the second to last episode. There were three women left on the show, and at the end he had to eliminate one. So hottie Jake took the girls to St. Lucia. I must admit, the Bachelor is not something I would ever want to be a part of, but going to St. Lucia for free kind of makes me want to send in an application PRONTO! Lucky girls..

Anyway, so there are three girls left: Tenley, Gia, and Vienna. Tenley is a sweet down-to-earth girl from Oregon. She has a super sweet voice and she dances. Gia is a shy swimsuit model from New York and Vienna is a beach blonde 23-year-old from Florida.

Now this is the problem. Tenley loves to dance and choreographs a private dance for Jake. It was so awkward it made me even feel uncomfortable and I wasn’t even present. Gia acts pathetic in the way that she claims she’s never been treated right. She said her ex boyfriend cheated on her with ALL of her friends. Dude, get new friends. My friends would never hook up with my boyfriend behind my back. It’s not classy. Last is Vienna, and Lord don’t even get me started with this chick. She’s 23 and just about everything about her is fake. She has fake blonde hair, fake boobs, fake tan: the works. My favorite part about Vienna is her employment: currently unemployed. I just don’t see how Jake (a pilot, I might add) is attracted to a girl who has no job and deems herself as a princess who gets whatever she wants from Daddy.

So the girls are in St. Lucia and each get private dates with Jake. At the end of the date, each girl gets the option of spending a romantic night with Jake or going back to their own separate rooms. Ofcourse all the girls chose to be with Jake. And I’m dying to know: Do they sleep with him? I mean it seems obvious that they would, but I just can’t imagine each girl sleeping with him, not knowing if he will send them home the next day.

At the end of the episode, Jake sends Gia home. Could have seen that one coming from a mile away. They just didn’t have chemistry, but then again I don’t think he has true chemistry with any of these women.

In conclusion, this show and even Jake, himself, is a joke. I like him less and less by the second. But he is still gorgeous and I can’t help but be drawn into this crazy reality show.

That’s it for now. xoxo

Jobs vs. Gates: Who’s the bigger badass?

We watched a video in class this week about Apple and its CEO, Steve Jobs. My assignment is to compare and contrast not only these two men, but their companies as well.

Where do I even begin?

Bill Gates has been a household name for as long as I can remember. When I think of Bill Gates, I think Harvard and wealth and intelligence. He’s the guy everyone knows and envies. On the other hand, I learned about Steve Jobs just two years ago in my Intro to Mass Comm class. Bill Gates is more widely known, even if it’s just because he has been around longer.

Now, Microsoft has been around for a good while. As with Gates, everyone knows Microsoft.  It seems to be a safe choice.  I always had Microsoft at my house growing up. I remember once in middle school I went to a friend’s house and saw an Apple Computer for the first time. I was blown away by all the cool features that my stupid PC at home didn’t have. I wanted an apple, just like him. Throughout the years, Apple has come up with so many different technologies. They have dabbled in computers, and music, and media. It’s almost unreal. I don’t see Microsoft doing any of this. When I went off to college, my parents bought me a laptop. I had the choice: PC or Mac. I chose a Mac and I’ve never been happier. It seems as though Microsoft is the safe choice, but Apple seems more risky and intense.  I’m almost on the edge of my chair wondering what Apple will create next. I mean iPod, iPhone, iTouch, iPad.. this is getting exciting.

In my book, Apple trumps Microsoft hands down. Extra points for creativity. On the other hand, although Steve Jobs seems like the ultimate badass, I still love Bill Gates. I mean c’mon, he donates millions of dollars to charity and does great things for the community. You go, Bill Gates.

In conclusion, Apple wins. Gates wins. I’m not sure if this is the kind of conclusion that was wanted, but I’m expressing my true opinions. That’s all for now.

Technology At Its Finest

In our class last week we watched a video about the transformation of computers and the internet throughout the years. This made me think back to the early days of elementary school.  I remember going to the computer lab once a week. The computers were huge.  We didn’t even know what the Internet was. We played games on the computers and I remember there was only one font and the screen was a dark blue. Who knew one day you could change the screen to anything you want, even a picture of yourself. Now we use the internet for just about anything: blogging, news, shopping, ect. The video said something that stuck out clearly in my mind. The Internet has only been around for 30 years and it has advanced this much already. Who knows what we could have in a few years! It’s crazy to think about.

On a personal note, a sorority sister of mine, Christina Eppel passed away after a 2 year-long battle with cancer. Her funeral was yesterday morning and it broke my heart. She was so young and so full of life. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

NOW moving on to happy times! Let the countdown begin until my 21st birthday– 23 days! I could not be more excited. My room-mate and best friend is just one day younger than I am so as a countdown, we made paper chains to hang on our doors and every morning we are going to take one down. SO EXCITING!

That’s it for now.

And so it begins…

Well for starters, I’ve never been much into Twitter or Blogging, but I am required to have both for a Social Media at Work class I am taking. Should have guessed that was coming..  I am now tweeting as much as I can (which isn’t very often, yet!) And next was to start a blog, so here I am.

My name is Erin and I’m a junior at Texas State majoring in Communications. I have no idea what I will blog about yet! But I guess over time I will find something I care enough to talk about :)
