Jobs vs. Gates: Who’s the bigger badass?

We watched a video in class this week about Apple and its CEO, Steve Jobs. My assignment is to compare and contrast not only these two men, but their companies as well.

Where do I even begin?

Bill Gates has been a household name for as long as I can remember. When I think of Bill Gates, I think Harvard and wealth and intelligence. He’s the guy everyone knows and envies. On the other hand, I learned about Steve Jobs just two years ago in my Intro to Mass Comm class. Bill Gates is more widely known, even if it’s just because he has been around longer.

Now, Microsoft has been around for a good while. As with Gates, everyone knows Microsoft.  It seems to be a safe choice.  I always had Microsoft at my house growing up. I remember once in middle school I went to a friend’s house and saw an Apple Computer for the first time. I was blown away by all the cool features that my stupid PC at home didn’t have. I wanted an apple, just like him. Throughout the years, Apple has come up with so many different technologies. They have dabbled in computers, and music, and media. It’s almost unreal. I don’t see Microsoft doing any of this. When I went off to college, my parents bought me a laptop. I had the choice: PC or Mac. I chose a Mac and I’ve never been happier. It seems as though Microsoft is the safe choice, but Apple seems more risky and intense.  I’m almost on the edge of my chair wondering what Apple will create next. I mean iPod, iPhone, iTouch, iPad.. this is getting exciting.

In my book, Apple trumps Microsoft hands down. Extra points for creativity. On the other hand, although Steve Jobs seems like the ultimate badass, I still love Bill Gates. I mean c’mon, he donates millions of dollars to charity and does great things for the community. You go, Bill Gates.

In conclusion, Apple wins. Gates wins. I’m not sure if this is the kind of conclusion that was wanted, but I’m expressing my true opinions. That’s all for now.
