Online Shopping. Where did it begin?
We watched a video in class about the Internet and the creation of Amazon and Ebay.
www.amazon.com was created by Jeff Bezos in his garage in the 1990′s. He referred to his website as the biggest online bookstore. Although it created revenue, amazon didn’t make profit very quickly. ”Get Big Fast” was his motto. To do this, customers would have to trust the company.
www.ebay.com was created by Pierre Omidyar in 1995. In 1998, shares were sold at over 50 dollars a share and was worth over 2 billion dollars.
These men couldn’t be more different. Bezos concentrated on business plans and organization, while Omidyar had no business plan and went solo on his idea of auctioning items off the internet. These men were so different, yet both of their ideas worked and eventually made both men millions of dollars.
